2026 - Digital Collage, Cappadocia Biennial

For the first phase of ‘Dönence’, digital collages printed on fabric served as both the process and the installation itself. Within the framework of the biennial’s theme, ‘Birth’, I addressed the concept of shelter through the lens of migration.

Setting out from our identity as a nomadic society, and through an abstract narrative built on the metaphor of a tent, in harmony with the unique texture of Cappadocia, I constructed a story that reflects on migration as a process of relearning, reclaiming one’s place, and rebuilding that ‘thing’ one can once again call home, together with all that is left behind.

About the Installation: Donence is a site-specific shelter installation that weaves together digital practices, traditional textile methods, and historical typologies to explore the concepts of displacement, memory, and refuge. Formed as a solitary sanctuary, the structure bridges Cappadocia’s ancient architectural heritage with contemporary migration issues. The installation creates a powerful narrative contrast between its exterior and interior layers.

The exterior features abstract digital collages and fabric paint on cotton, visually probing the theme of "leaving behind." In contrast, the hidden interior reveals intricate ultraviolet (UV) drawings referencing ancient cave settlements, turning the inner space into a collective memory chamber.

Meticulously crafted through extensive hand-stitching and textile interventions, the work reinterprets ancient forms of refuge within modern social cycles, inviting the viewer into an immersive spatial and psychological experience.

Mixed media, digital collage, pigment print on cotton fabric, hand-stitching, thread embroidery.
